Kansas City Portrait Spotlight: Meet Health Advocate Dr. Melissa Leimkuehler

I'm Melissa Leimkuehler—a physician, breast cancer survivor, and passionate advocate for early detection and proper screening. I believe every woman should be familiar with the feel and texture of her own breast tissue, commit to regular self-exams, and pursue annual screenings starting at age 40 with 3-D imaging. My own journey taught me the critical importance of early treatment and the power of support, and I’m dedicated to sharing that knowledge to empower others.

Beyond my work at Johns Hopkins, where I provide cutting-edge care and educate future radiologists, my greatest joy comes from my family. My two daughters, Kali and Giselle, light up my life, and my husband Jesse and I recently celebrated 24 years of marriage and 30 years together—a testament to our enduring love and teamwork, both at home and in our family business, Belvoir Winery and Inn.
