Carrying Forward a Kansas City Family Business

I define myself by the strength I’ve built through motherhood, running a family business, and learning to embrace who I am—inside and out. Becoming a mom gave me a deeper sense of empathy, and stepping into leadership in a male-dominated industry taught me resilience, adaptability, and the power of believing in myself.

One of my proudest achievements is becoming the third generation to take over our family business—and doing it alongside my best friend, which has made the journey both fulfilling and fun. Confidence, to me, means knowing your value and not letting others diminish it.

Turning 40 reminded me that beauty fades, but growth and joy come from within. I’ve learned to set boundaries, nurture meaningful friendships, and cherish what makes me just Katie—not defined by any one role. Whether I’m cooking with friends, dancing with girlfriends, or exploring life with my son, I find joy in being fully present.

My message to women over 40? Give yourself grace, let go of comparison, and celebrate your uniqueness.Unapologetically being yourself is the best gift you can give to the world—and to you.
