How Kansas City Photography Captures Melissa’s Balance of Family and Career

I define myself by tenacity. If there’s something I want, I find a way to make it happen. I create my own opportunities, ask for what I need, and—above all—never quit.

My greatest pride is being a mom to three incredible young adults who are independent, loyal, funny, and resilient. They inspire me every day. Professionally, I’ve been blessed to serve as a sole practitioner in family law for nearly 30 years—an achievement that reflects both my passion and perseverance.

Some of the most transformative experiences in my life have been traveling abroad to Africa as a single mother. These journeys, and the responsibility of providing for my children, taught me that happiness truly lies within. One lesson I’ve learned the hard way? You can’t please everyone—and that’s okay.

Self-Care, Style, and Why Kansas City Portraits Matter

I nurture myself through regular self-care, including sleep (a solid 8–9 hours a night!), getting my nails and hair done, and carving out time for what I love: traveling, reading, working out, golfing, walking my golden retrievers, and tending to my flower garden.

At 50, I finally took up golf—something I’ve wanted to do my whole life. I now play up to six days a week and proudly hold my own, even when paired with experienced players. I’ve learned that no one cares how bad you are, as long as you play bad fast!

To every woman over 40: Live your life with no regrets. Embrace each day as if it’s your last—but do it responsibly.
