Kansas City Portrait Spotlight: Meet Safety Leader Margaret Mata
I'm Margaret Mata, and my entire career has been dedicated to safety. I spent 18 years in criminal justice, working on cases involving sex crimes and serving in nonprofit roles to protect vulnerable, at-risk kids and mothers. Later, I became a Masters-prepared Registered Nurse and now serve as a High Reliability Lead for the VA—it’s incredibly rewarding to support those who have served our country. I'm proud to have been a key developer and lead for an organizational reliability assessment tool used within the VA.

In addition to my nursing career, I am an Organizational Prosci Change Practitioner, an Executive Leader Coach, and a former Certified Law Enforcement Forensic Psychophysiologist. I also played a key role in developing a child safety curriculum for Neighborhood Watch.
Each step of my journey has been driven by a commitment to creating safer communities and empowering others to make a difference.
